EYE BASES | All About series
In this post I will tell you everything you need to know about eye bases, from normal primers to colored bases and cream shadows and more !! I think priming the eyes is the most important step that will make you achieve a perfectly blended eye look and will make your shadows more vibrant while enhancing the longevity :) but in the makeup world there are so many different type of bases that it can be really confusing for a lot of people, that’s why I decided to start from the ‘bases’ and talk about every bases that I own .. so here we go ..
In questo post vi parlerò di tutto ciò che c'è da sapere sulle basi occhi, da normali primer a basi colorate e ombretti in crema e molto altro!! Penso che l'utilizzo di una base o un primer occhi sia uno degli step più importanti per poter ottenere un makeup look ben sfumato, duraturo e pigmentato :) ma nel mondo del make-up ci sono talmente tanti tipi di basi che può essere davvero difficile scegliere il tipo migliore in base al trucco che si andrà a realizzare, ed è per questo che ho deciso di spiegarvi in questo post la funzione di ogni singola base che possiedo e che potreste inconsapevolmente già possedere anche voi !!!
PRIMERS
Primers can be usually liquidy, they might be transparent or with a light tinge of flesh tone color, I own the Essence I love STAGE primer (click
here to see) and as you can see from the swatch it's pretty colored but not excessively pigmented and thick.
Normal primers are perfect for an everyday use and for every makeup look !!
Make sure to set primers !! at least in the crease area, to avoid creasing and have a more sinuous blend preventing the eyeshadows from skipping; if you want a really pigmented lid don't set it excessively to not loose any of the base power!
CREAM BASES (flesh toned)
Cream bases are usually more thick and pigmented than normal eye primers, they're really useful to cancel any discoloration or unevenness on the eye lids but they can be also a bit drying and difficult to manage for people with dry eye lids, I own the MAC Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in the color Soft Ochre (click
here to shop) and I love it so so much, I basically use it every single day even if I'm not going to wear any shadow (except some to set it)
Cream bases are perfect if you want to achieve that perfect bomb makeup as they will make your shadows a lot more pigmented !!
PRIMER
I primer occhi sono solitamente in forma liquida, possono essere più o meno pigmentati o addirittura trasparenti, io possiedo il primer di Essence I love STAGE (clicca
qui) e lo trovo buono per le ragazze alle prime armi o per un utilizzo quotidiano :) è abbastanza pigmentato e non troppo pastoso.
Ricordatevi di fissare il vostro primer con una cipria o un ombretto neutro per evitare che si muova e non vi faccia sfumare in modo ottimale l'ombretto, solitamente consiglio di fissare dalla piega in sù e non necessariamente sulla palpebra per non perdere tutto il potere della base quando si andrà ad applicare un'altro ombretto su di essa.
BASI IN CREMA (nude)
Le basi in crema sono solitamente quelle che si trovano nei barattolini, sono più cremose e pigmentate e possono diventare un po' troppo secche per chi ha già delle palpebre più secche.
Io possiedo il Pro Long Wear Paint Pot di MAC nella colorazione Soft Ochre (clicca
qui) e mi ci trovo benissimo !! Lo uso tutti i giorni anche quando non utilizzo nessun ombretto in particolare (ovviamente fissandolo comunque con una cipria o un ombretto color carne)

WHITE BASES
White bases can be in jars or in pencil form, I own the NYX Jumbo eye pencil in the color Milk (click
here to shop) and I love it so much.
White bases can be used for so many things, one is making your shadows more light, shiny and pigmented!! They're better to use with shadows that you want to appear more vibrant and light, like really neon colors (especially matte ones) and shiny highlighting colors (like inner corner colors)
BLACK BASES
Black bases can be in pencil form as the NYX Jumbo eye pencil in the color Black Bean (click
here to shop) and can be also normal gel liners!! I own the Maybelline intense gel liner (click
here to shop) and I find it so useful both for liner and as a base.
Black bases can be use to make your shadows appear more vibrant and dimensional, especially those shadows that are like duo chrome or really foild and on the dark side, as you can see from the swatches down below the NYX shadows is a lot more dimensional on the black base and the green e.l.f. shadow it's much more pigmented on the black base too !!
So take out your gel liner and start to play with your shadows, also the more affordable ones can be really satisfying to use !!
BASI BIANCHE
Per basi bianche si possono intendere basi in vasetto o matite e matitoni cremosi, come la Jumbo eye pencil di NYX nella colorazione Milk, che io personalmente adoro (e utilizzo sia nell'angolo interno come base per un ombretto illuminante, sia come matita all'interno dell'occhio per aprire lo sguardo).
Le basi bianche sono utili per rendere gli ombretti vibranti, pigmentati e più chiari; soprattutto ombretti molto colorati con una texture matte (opaca)
BASI NERE
Esistono basi nere vere e proprie come la Jumbo eye pencil di NYX nella colorazione Black Bean e eyeliner in gel neri che si possono utilizzare come base, io utilizzo l'intense gel liner di Maybelline e lo adoro (ahahah come più o meno tutto in questo post)
Una base nera vi permetterà di ottenere degli effetti super intensi, è perfetta per fare risaltare ombretti molto satinati e duo chrome (soprattutto quelli più scuri). Come avrete visto in foto sopra, l'ombretto NYX si trasforma completamente con la base nera, e l'ombretto e.l.f diventa molto più pigmentato e pieno.
Quindi cosa state aspettando, andate subito a provare tutti i vostri ombretti più particolari sopra una base nera e ne rimarrete sorprendentemente stupite !!

MIXING MEDIUM GELS
So mixing medium gels are basically transparent gels that you can use to make your pigments really stick and pop more, and most importantly to not transfer to the upper lid !! Yeah I know that's kinda magical but it works :)
So I know that MAC has a Mixing Medium liner (click
here to shop) and I saw alissa.ashley on youtube (click
here) using it and it was really working !!
But I actually own a much cheaper alternative: the Neve Cosmetics Mixing Medium called 'Rugiada' (click
here to shop) it works just fine and it's super duper useful.
I suggest you to really look for a mixing medium gel if you have deep set eyes and hooded eyes or if you use a lot pigments and you want them to stick to your eyelids better !!
MIXING MEDIUM:
Magari alcune di voi non conoscono l'esistenza di questo tipo di prodotto, i mixing medium sono dei gel (solitamente trasparenti) che permettono di avere un'applicazione molto più semplice e super pigmentata degli ombretti in polvere, e soprattutto permettono di non fare trasferire l'ombretto nella piega o in giro per tutta la palpebra ahah.
Conosco il Mixing Medium liner di MAC e lo vedo spesso utilizzare su youtube da alyssa.ashley (clicca
qui per il suo canale) e funziona davvero bene; ma io possiedo un'alternativa più economica e proveniente per di più da una marca italiana: la Rugiada di Neve Cosmetics !! eh sì è un mixing medium ed è fantastico per chi ha gli occhi incappucciati o per chi usa tanto i pigmenti in generale :)

CREAM SHADOWS
Cream shadows can be a little bit intimidating, especially for beginners, but they're actually so useful to have, for example you can make any shimmery shadow a lot more pigmented and foiled, it will look so rich and vibrant on the lid !! You can use cream shadows also to clean up cut creases and make them extra sharp.
A really good brand that (for me) makes one of the best cream shadows it's Wycon, they have cream in jars, more liquidy creams and also cream pencils and they're all long lasting and almost waterproof for example with the one in the picture (n 10) I also went swimming ahaha and it lasted so well !!
OMBRETTI IN CREMA
Gli ombretti in crema, soprattutto per chi è alle prime armi, possono sembrare difficili da sfumare e da utilizzare; ma sono in realtà utilissimi come basi per ombretti shimmer, per farli diventare super intensi e ottenere un effetto molto più metallico e duraturo.
La mia marca preferita di ombretti in crema è Wycon, come vedete in foto il n 10 (un bellissimo oro rosa) può essere utilizzato come base per ombretti (e pigmenti) oro, oro rosa e argento e il risultato è quasi waterproof.

OTHER LIQUID SHADOWS, CREAM STICKS AND PENCILS
In this post I wanted to feature other possible bases that you might find interesting or that you might already have at home :)
The Wycon Aqua Shade liquid shadows are cream shadows in a kind of liquid lipstick tube form, they dry completely and they can be used alone or as bases.
The Pupa long lasting eye stilo is instead a chubby pencil for your eyes that can be smudge alone or used as a base (it really hump up the pigmentation of your shadows !!) but any jumbo pencil or chubby pencil will do the trick :)
The last product pictured is an eye pencil from Kiko, a normal eye pencil (a burgundy with red particles) that I love so much to use as a base for brown or burgundy smokey eyes.
I've showed you this items to make you see the fact that basically every similar product that you own can be used as an eye base (you don't need the exact ones) .. so just step out of your comfort zone and try different combination to see what works best for you :) Happy experimenting !!
OMBRETTI LIQUIDI, MATITONI E MATITE
In quest'ultima foto volevo mostrarvi altri tipi di prodotti che possono essere utilizzati sia da soli che come basi per ombretti in polvere etc, Gli Aqua Shade di Wycon ( in edizione limitata :/ ) sono ombretti liquidi dalla consistenza cremosa e il packaging simile a quello di rossetti liquidi, io possiedo il color Perla e Prugna e li adoro da soli e non; il terzo prodotto è la Long Lasting eye stilo di Pupa (n 002) un matitone a lunga durata che vi permette di ottenere look più intensi e pigmentati.
L'ultimo prodotto è una matita di Kiko di un bellissimo color mattone/borgogna che utilizzo spesso come base per smokey marroni e prugna.
Ovviamente non dovete utilizzare gli stessi identici prodotti, ma prodotti simili che già possedete a casa :)

GLITTER BASES
In eye base range I wanted to include also glitter bases, there are many different types, I know the Too Faced one it's really good (click
here to shop) but I personally own the Lit Cosmetics bases (click
here), that are more of a liquid type of base, there are 3 different one (as you can tell from the first photo): one is the normal glitter base (blue) the other pink one is the water resistant base (that is perfect for the mermaids out there ahah) and the purple one is the forever wear glitter base, that can be used on lips, brows and body, and also as a base for your loose pigments !!
FIX +
So the MAC prep and prime fix + spray, it's a spray that contains glycerin and that will make your makeup less cake-ish and your shadows, pigments and highlight a lot more vibrant and pigmented. But what fix + won't do is to make your shadows stay in place and don't transfer, in fact it will don't hold really well pigments and glitters and that's why you need a separate base for them :)
BASI PER GLITTER
Le basi per glitter possono essere di vari tipi: ci sono basi più cremose come la glitter glue di Too Faced e altre più liquide come le basi per glitter di Lit Cosmetics (che potete vedere bene nella prima foto) io possiedo la base glitter normale (quella blu) quella resistente all'acqua (rosa) e l'ultima (quella viola) da poter utilizzare su labbra, sopracciglia e corpo :) e perfetta anche come base per pigmenti!
FIX +
Il prep and prime fix + di MAC è uno spray che contiene al suo interno glicerina, e proprio per questo rende il makeup in generale meno pastoso e pesante dando un'effetto molto più luminoso, e può essere utilizzato per intensificare ombretti, pigmenti e illuminanti, infatti se spruzzato sul pennello, il prodotto che si andrà ad applicare risulterà molto più pigmentato e scrivente :)
L'unica cosa che il fix + non potrà fare è impedire ai vostri pigmenti di girare liberi per la vostra palpebra ahahah ed ecco perché ci sono basi fatte apposta per pigmenti e glitter !!
